Great golf course that meanders through the valley climbs and falls to give some lovely holes. Green quite quick with contours to test your putting.
Nice par 3 to open up and leaves driver for longer 2nd hole that is a risk / reward hole with internal OOB to defend shortcuts but beware going long short right.
All the bunkers are well blessed with sand so no bottoming out but plenty of fried egg challenges!!!!
Played 20-4-2015 on a 2 for 1 voucher £32 it is well worth the visit. Based in Filey this place is 50 mins drive and worth the effort. Young pro shop guy was very helpful with a few guidance notes to orientate us, especially useful 9th to the 10th when it looks like your going off course.

As you will recall, I bumped into you on Tuesday 17th. sept. When my wife and I came across to enjoy playing on your course for the first time.  You were keen to receive feedback, so am delighted to give you our thoughts here:
Having not played it before, it was very pleasant to discover a  number of interesting features.  Indeed, after the first two holes, the dynamics of the course changes significantly, and becomes very varied  and with
many pleasant surprises. The 12th. Is a very unusual tight dogleg, which, as I discovered,  demands careful club selection to open up the green!
As you advised us, the views from the 13th. are indeed glorious, including the grouping of Pine trees which gave a lovely setting. I also particularly enjoyed the views from the white tee box of the7th.Without a doubt, the course has been very well maintained with well cut and with inviting fairways, and I feel you are very lucky to have so much land for the course, -although this must be particularly labour intensive for you to schedule into a no doubt busy workload programme as a result!  The greens were also in great condition and running true, although I did find a number of them somewhat slow, maybe because of recent rain. We did in fact feel that we would very much like to revisit your Club and play a further round the following day, although unfortunately we realised that we were trying to pack too much into our holiday schedule, so regrettably had to cancel in the end. We just hope we are able to travel up your way on some future occasion, so as to be able to take on the challenges of your course once again!

Dear Richard,

On behalf of the Captain of Captains and Members of the York and District Golf Captains Society and their guests, may I thank you, the Captain, Committee and Members of Kirkbymoorside Golf Club for according us the privilege of holding our Autumn Meeting and Annual Dinner at the club on Thursday.                      The golf in the afternoon proved to be thoroughly enjoyable with decent weather and the course in superb condition. Do please congratulate and thank the greenkeeping staff for a job well done. In the evening we were served a first class meal in a most efficient and courteous manner and I would ask that you particularly thank the catering and bar staff for looking after us all so well. On a personal note, may I thank you for all your hard work in helping myself and the Captain make such a success of the occasion. In appreciation, I am arranging for our Treasurer to forward a cheque for £200 for the promotion of the game of golf at Kirkbymoorside Golf Club.

I would like to thank you and all of your staff for making my Captains away day such a sucessful day. The day could not have gone any smoother from the moment we arrived to the time it came for us to leave. The course was fantastic(it’s a pity my golf wasn’t), the food was magnificent of which everybody made comment and the courtesy of the staff was wonderful. Special mention to Albert who catered to our every needs and the catering staff who fed us so well.Hope to see you on the 8th September and I hope you didn’t get too wet on your camping weekend.

Hi Richard,I just thought I’d let you know how delighted all our

members were with our visit to  Kirkbymoorside on Friday last.Everyone made us feel welcome for which we were very grateful.

Special thanks to Tony who appeared to ‘don’ many hats
during the day which helped ensure the success of the day.

We enjoyed playing the course which was presented in a great
condition considering the time of year and our recent weather. I’m sure your members are proud of the quality of catering offered and the professionalism of both Danielle and Abbie.

Can only thank you for the day, once again Kirkby was in
amazing condition greens fast and tricky, excellent foodand warm friendly reception. Thanks to my son Will we had twenty points front nine, rain unfortunately affected the back nine. Food as always excellent, welcome superb, starter was brilliant.Well done green staff, I birdied 6 and 8 and had quite a few pars as well.loved the day, thank you all we will be back many times.

Just a few lines to say some deserved thanks for a most enjoyable day last Friday the 20th September 2013, even the weather turned out to be on our side. I hope having to extend the tee time because of more numbers than planned did not inconvenience any of your members.Please could you convey our appreciation to your green staff for the excellent job they do in keeping the course in such lovely condition, it’s a credit to them. Also to Albert in the shop for his help and welcome.Special thanks must go to your caterer and her staff who provided us with some great bacon buttys on arrival and an excellent meal after golf, the service was first class. Lastly our thanks to you for your help and assistance with the organisation, it all went towards making a very enjoyable day for us all.

One of the golf clubs set high on the moor is Kirbymoorside, one of the real discoveries of the moorland style of golf. As the brochure states, there is strong evidence of the wish to promote the great Yorkshire down to earth traditions of good value and great hospitality. It was evident from the minute we arrived.The clubhouse is modern, it was only built in 1998 and was opened by former Ryder Cup Captain Bernard Gallagher.
The first hole is unusual, teeing off from right outside the clubhouse, it is a short par three over the road, a hole to focus the thoughts from the outset. Not long at just over 6200 yards, it is certainly picturesque, with super views from the 13th tee, past the village of Gillamoor and over the moors and the Hambleton Hills.
The drive from the elevated 7th tee, is the toughest on the front nine and the hole is rightly index two. The tenth, and a stroll down a leafy bowered path, is very tight, and is not christened the Widow Maker for nothing.There are eight par 4’s over 400 yards, so the driver had better be working well if you hope to finish with a good card, especially as there are only one par five and three short holes. A SSS of 70 can be a tall order at the first time of asking.
All in all, a delightful golfing treat, in manicured condition and a well presented course that is a credit to the greens staff and all concerned.

Dear Richard and staff at Kirkbymoorside GC,
I would just like to pass on our sincerest thanks to the staff for looking after us so well on our forum day today. I was very early this morning and the two cleaning ladies were marvellous, so friendly and helpful showing me the way to the visitors locker and more importantly the coffee machine.
The course was everything we expected and much more, we are very envious of your members as the course was in super condition and every hole was both a visual feast and great golfing challenge, your green staff are to be congratulated on the condition of the course and the way it was presented especially after the recent weather we have had to endure.
Thanks also to the waitresses who were very professional and efficient and also the chef, the food was enjoyed by all very much indeed.
All in all we could not have asked for a better experience.

I was lucky enough on Monday 1st November 2010, to take advantage of your winter special offer of a full breakfast first, followed by golf then soup and sandwiches.
I had booked this on the Friday with Richard and from the minute we arrived at 9.30am the whole day went like clockwork thanks to those who looked after my friend Gordon and I.
Within minutes of our arrival we were seated in the dining area which had been previously set out to a most hearty meal freshly cooked.
In short sleeves enjoying the sunshine we commenced battle on the first tee, the course was an absolute delight and the greens for the time of year were in remarkably good condition.
One or two of the greens had us both scratching our heads trying to seek out the right line, which added to the test of skill needed.
The course from start to finish was a real pleasure to play and a good test of golf.
Enjoying a drink in the club house afterwards our wives joined us all enjoying delicious soup followed by a platter of various filled freshly made sandwiches nicely rounded off an excellent day out.
First Class service, excellent golf course, most certainly friendly club and helpful members.
A visitors delight and without doubt very good value.
I look forward to my next visit, please thank those individuals on behalf of Gordon and myself for making our day such a pleasurable experience

I write on behalf of the ‘Captain of Captains’, Ray Harryman, and players from this Society to express our sincere appreciation of the kindness of your Captain, Committee and Members in permitting us to hold our match versus Leeds Captains at Kirkbymoorside Golf Club on Wednesday.
The course was in superb condition and was the subject of many appreciative remarks from all those taking part. Please thank and congratulate the greenkeeping staff. and, of course, take a big pat on the back yourselves for arranging the splendid weather!
Please also thank the catering staff for providing us with such good food so proficiently served by the young waitresses. They are a credit to you.
All the above contributed to a golfing occasion thoroughly enjoyed by all. In appreciation, I am arranging for our treasurer to forward a cheque for £100 for the promotion of junior golf at Kirkbymoorside Golf Club.
